Daniel “Dan” Young Ho Hong, 85, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 24 at home. Born in Captain Cook, he was a retired director of quality assurance for Dole Pineapple Co. and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Service held. Memorial donations to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745. Survived by wife, Chizuko Hong; sister, Edith Kong of Honolulu; daughter-in-law, Theresa Hong of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.

Derrick Akira Nakano, 55, of Hilo died Sept. 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was proprietor of Nakano Towing Co. Visitation 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 2 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Joan Nakano of Hilo; daughter, Reesha Nakano of Hilo; father, Francis Nakano of Hilo; mother, Mitzi Nakano of Hilo; brother, Daryl Nakano of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Hideko Motoyama of Hilo; stepson, Jeffrey Nishimoto of San Diego; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. The late Fumiyo Yamanaka is survived by, among others, daughter-in-law Rae Yamanaka. Her name was omitted from an obituary published on Sept. 26.
